The ASD asks the community to take part in naming new buildings

As Allentown School District completes Phase I of the Comprehensive Facilities Plan (CFP), there is an opportunity to celebrate this historic school improvement plan with new names for one new school and two new 9th grade centers. Between the months of April and June 2010, the District will be welcoming the public to view the upgrades or expansions of six schools with grand openings. A key part of these grand openings are naming three of the new buildings:

• New Elementary School on Allen Street (in front of Jackson Elementary)
• 9th Grade Center at Louis E. Dieruff High School
• 9th Grade Center at William Allen High School

Nominations can be submitted here and more information can be found about the official process in ASD Policy 701.1, Naming/Renaming District Facilities on the ASD website.

I only wish they had involved more people in the discussion of the design. These modernist designs just don't seem like community schools.
