Lehigh Valley Food Co-op Opens and Identifies 7th Street Drop Off

The Lehigh Valley Food Co-op is up and running.  Virtually, anyway.

Although I understand that they were looking for a store-front location for much of the last year, they decided to go virtual, and set up drop off locations around the Lehigh Valley.

Allentown's drop off location is St. Lukes on 7th Street (thanks Peter)!

I remember food co-ops in the '70's.  They were a way that people could get good quality organic and grocery store items (that the groceries wouldn't carry then) for a fair price.  During that time, they also acted as a center for community.

The first ordering cycle will start Friday, March 27th and ending March 30th.  And, the first delivery will take place on April 2nd at St. Lukes.

If you have already joined, you will need to go to www.lvfood.coop and log on.  If you're not a member, you'll pay $75 to join for the redeemable membership fair-share price. Every following year you can expect an annual fee of $25.   Children under 18 are free. Fees are waived for full-time college students.

If you have not joined and want to start participating, you'll need to fill out the online membership form at www.lvfood.coop.

This is a great opportunity for people to be a part of a business, a community and cut the cost of feeding their families.

I think this Co-op is a wonderful way to bring fresh, locally produced veggies, meats, cheeses, breads, etc. to people all over the Valley. It would take an entire weekend to drive to all these farms and buy from them directly, so it's really convenient to be able to get all this stuff at one drop-off point in your area.

You need to get your order in on Monday night for pick up on Thursday.

I am so impressed with what I ordered last week. The fresh, organic greens are amazing.

I would recommend this to anyone in the Lehigh Valley, but especially Allentown, who wants to support local growers, build community and access great food.

I think that the Co-Op is a fantastic development here in the Valley! Kudos to the creators for having a great idea and then following through with all the hard work necessary to make it happen.

I am very excited for the opportunity to conveniently support local farms and develop a sense of community. Just what we needed!
