One of the benefits to apartment living that I had forgotten about during all of my years of owning a home is that carefree feeling one gets when it snows.
With no sidewalk to shovel, no driveway to plow -- and now living within walking distance of work, I enjoyed the early morning snowfall today with a hike down Hamilton Street.
I'd like to report that while I was enjoying feeling carefree and irresponsible, others were acting more responsibly. Crews were out early from the Allentown Parking Authority and Summit Management, clearing their respective properties. The City of Allentown's crew had already been by to clear the street.
For anyone in the suburbs tiring of shoveling snow in the winter, I can report that living in an apartment in a mixed use neighborhood within walking distance of everything is easier!
While on the hike down Hamilton, I noticed that a new gym has opened downtown, Extreme Fitness. It's located on the north side of Hamilton between 9th and 10th (just east of Deli Plaza). Other early birds will appreciate the 5 a.m. opening -- and everyone will appreciate extended hours and the gym's proximity to Deli Plaza. Imagine a fresh bagel and amazing smoked salmon treat after a work out.

THAT'S definitely a plus to living in the CITY. No shoveling, unless it's your car. (smile) Well, you CAN'T have EVERYTHING...

great post...it's my favorite thing in the world knowing that my commute to work is just a few steps away from my house...no driving in all this muck any longer!

Even I'm too embarrassed to say how early I actually got up. After the hike I made us breakfast and waited for a respectable time to download the photo and write my post.
The absolute best thing about being out for a walk (or a run) in the early morning is experiencing how quiet a community is. I love the activity of a city, but I also like exploring quiet streets when everyone is sleeping.
